Has it really been a week already since we left Mumbai and my last post? Time flies in the typical tropical palmtree lined beaches you find on postcards and Boutny commercials, includind Goa's. That's where we've been, and that's why I haven't sent any postcards; I imagineyou can get the picture. Or do I need to specify on the fruit juices and cocktails etc? Not that I like them that much, I just need that frsh coconut or pineapple taste to extinguish the burning Hotttt Vindaloo food they have over here (I'm sure vindaloo is related to voodoo, can't be coincidence). Now I know for sure: going further south = the hotter food gets and more laid back people become. Goans are what you can expect from (sub)tropicans. Only one thing remains the same: the apparant gayness of about 75% of men. I never got used to seeing male 'couples' walking hand in hand... It's just that it doesn't fit in my mental schemes of how (fysical) behaviour towards others of the same sex are 'supposed' to be. And being unable to find cultural difference on sex/gender behaviour a reason or an explanation for the 'normality' of men holding hands etc., I just prefer to conclude that in India far more men are gay than the 10% in Europe. (Or what would you think when you see two patrolling policemen holding hands??). Also, when Indians say yes, they wobble their heads not vertically like we do, but kind of horizontally. And that movement, well... it's kind of gay too.
Naah, obviously there must be a cultural explanation. I'll think it over having my next cocktail of ... (tropical fruit and booze yet to be chosen) (isn't drinking tropical fruit cocktails kindof gay by the way?)

Nice post Koen. Enjoy the experience. You never know - with all that hand holding going on you may just find another side of yourself.

Koen, found your blog. thanks for the SMS on wedding day. Was such a good day. Will keep reading.
Koen,
Patrick Janssens kicked butt at de verkiezingen.
Or maybe it's just me being gay and missing you so much, dak u overal zie. Toch eens checken.
Hey hey

Dear Koen!
I love it so much, reading your stories and thoughts as almost every word lifts me up and brings me back again to the places I visited in India. I can smell it again, taste the curries, or rather swallow them as quickly as possible, sothat that hot stuff can only take as little time as possible in my mouth, throath. Eating onion because they at least are somewhat sweet... And of course the chapatis!! But I must confess, I never ever drank such nice lemonlassi as in Kolkatta. Bless the boy. India indeed is so strange. I used to say everything is different except for the computers. And in a way I still stick to it. I never ever have seen such crazy things and attitudes indeed (the "joke" of the intelligent young man) as there. Don´t you think they are always laughing at everybody´s badluck?
This is what I have in mind: they seem to enjoy seeing sombody struggling with a problem.
And of course the poor... Nowhere else I have seen so many and so poor.
It really makes you start thinking about what is happening here in this world...
And just to finish this of: to mention 'expect the unexpected': once we were visiting a Jesuit monastry and for our "well come" they had bought some Whisky. We didn´t drink it at all, they did. But the next day it was Sunday... They had to preach in church, as they were the fathers... When we came around with our "hosty", they soaked it in the "Grail full of wine and water". Surprise surprise... this time it tasted damngood like Whisky!!!!!!
Have fun Guys!!
Fiona
groetjes Rutger
He koeners,
Doei, Vanessa
